Sculpture, dynamism and energy: these are the three words that Mario Bellini has chosen to describe his work. Torsion is an impressive round table which, like a sculpture, deserves to be placed in the center of the room. A distinctive and unique design that stands out for its modern appearance and, at the same time, for its evocative and symbolic power, transmitting all the strength, beauty, energy and dynamism of the ancient olive trees of Puglia.
Torsion is the result of union. A strong bond between two visionary minds: Pasquale Natuzzi and Mario Bellini. To carry out the design of the table-sculpture, a piece that falls within the limits between design and contemporary art, Natuzzi has opted for the creative mind of Mario Bellini, winner of eight Compassi d’Oro. Bellini has been inspired by olive trees and with its design, it pays tribute to Puglia, the Italian region that has inspired the brand since 1959, where Pasquale Natuzzi began his professional adventure.
Made of olive wood, Torsion has a special production process. Firstly, the time necessary to find and select the raw material, which must come exclusively from authorized crops and plantations. Subsequently, the drying time and the period of rest of the wood must be respected, much longer than that of any other type and finally, the processing times.
The base, two meters in diameter, is extra clear tempered glass with polished edge. The structure on which the glass rests evokes the unfolding of the branches an olive tree, made up of six stylized “branches”. Each branch is made up of about 10 strips of solid olive wood, pantographed with precision CNC machines, glued and sanded by hand.
Torsion is a “Limited Edition” table that has been produced for celebrate 60 years of the brand’s life: There are only 60 pieces available, and they can be purchased at all Natuzzi Italia stores around the world for low price of 35000 euros. The authenticity of the product is guaranteed, and they are identified with a enumeration in one of the six “branches” of the table structure.
