Famous for its futuristic designs and organic shapes, his creations were pioneers in marking the beginning of transforming the bathrooms into a living space.
Pioneering developments: new products for individual effects
Luigi Colani was born in the German capital in 1928, and after studying sculpture and fine arts at the Berlin Academy of Arts, and aerodynamics and ultralight design at the Polytechnic School of Paris. Among his creations, there are sports cars, furniture, dishes, cameras and clothing for the main manufacturers.
By combining his knowledge of aerodynamics and ergonomics with his love for organic and biomorphic designHe was able to develop his own distinctive style that made him famous worldwide.
New approaches: multifunctional rooms with organic shapes
To design the sinks, toilets, bidets and urinals, Colani was inspired by people and their habitual movements in the bathroom. In the case of the Luigo Colani collection for Villeroy & Boch, the designer was inspired by the timeless flow of water and the natural movements of people, reflected in shapes without corners and edges that are difficult to clean or potentially dangerous. And the pieces that Colani designed for Villeroy & Boch are characterized by organic design and futuristic lines, with great influence from nature.
His designs sought to satisfy the demand of the people who sought “living baths“, and in the successive creations, a selection of colors was included that conveyed an emotional element. And these Colani designs have become classics that we like to rediscover in these days of confinement.
