The Mediterranean style is iconic and known all over the world for its light and bright colors. How to reproduce it even in the bathroom? Here are ideas and tips not to be missed.
The Mediterranean style, as can be easily guessed from its name, it originates in the Mediterranean basin, with common characteristics and substantial differences between the various countries that compose it, from the Iberian Peninsula to France, from Italy, to Greece to the Maghreb.
The essential element is no doubt lightness in the furnishings not bulky and in fabrics almost intangible. The colors are clear, they help to make the room large and bright.
The materials are natural, both in the furniture and in the coverings; widely used the stone, often left rough on the perimeter walls, e the wood, even in the ceiling beams left exposed. Inevitable ceramic, painted like the one produced on the Amalfi Coast or glazed in the manner of the Portuguese and Arabs.

A Mediterranean-style house, even if in the city, always has a small terrace with all the comforts, where the furnishings are in wicker. Attention also to lighting, natural light should be preferred as much as possible; the ideal would be if there was in every room.
Turning to colors, the predominant one is undoubtedly white. In the Mediterranean countries it is a choice aimed at defending oneself from the scorching sun; in fact, this color avoids internal overheating and at the same time gives freshness and vitality to the eye too. This shade can be used for practically everything, from floors to walls, through textiles, decorative elements and furnishing accessories.
The other color that should never be missing is blue, in all its shades that recall those of the sea. Also in this case, it is better to prefer the brightest tones and use them to give accents to the environment.
Be careful not to confuse this style with the marine one, where in combination with the colors just described there is almost always also red. There is no shortage of decorations with starfish and anchors, even in the fabrics. Another element often present are the horizontal lines. All these details are absent in the Mediterranean style, which on the contrary is very simple and free of any pattern or geometric design.

How to design a Mediterranean style bathroom
Having seen the general characteristics of the Mediterranean style, let’s see in detail how to decline them in a room as intimate as it is instagrammable like the bathroom.
The first sensation that must be conveyed to a bathroom furnished following this trend is that of brightness. The simplest and most immediate way to do this is use a lot of white, both in the coverings and in the furnishings. White towels, again without designs, embroidery or monograms, and light curtains can help.
If the size is small, place a large mirror which contributes to expanding the space optically. In addition, natural light will reflect and diffuse at its highest level. Choose one without a frame and play with tiles and other coverings.

The second feeling to convey must be that of simplicity. Eliminate unnecessary furnishings altogether, also to avoid detergents, make-up and accessories on display. The materials to be preferred are natural ones, the ideal would be if they were untreated, with matt surfaces or finishes. From this point of view you could find affinities with the Scandinavian style and in fact it is, just add a touch of blue.
Keep this last consideration in mind especially if you want to renovate your bathroom without spending a fortune.
Wanting to always have your everyday objects close at hand and not closed in furniture (think of face creams, brushes, hair accessories, etc …) a good compromise are the baskets. Choose a bathroom furniture with shelves and open compartments and place baskets and containers inside them made with simple materials, such as wicker or woven straw. You can find them for sale online and in specialized stores.
An element whose choice will be very important are the taps. Perhaps it is needless to underline that simplicity will prevail again, but we prefer to remind you to opt for something linear, in steel, with mixer or with knobs depending on your personal taste.
An alternative, if the Mediterranean style you prefer is that of southern Italy, it is the pottery richly decorated. In the next photo an example in which there is no lack of decorations. It almost feels like taking a dip in the sea, don’t you think?
Finally, the last detail not to be overlooked are the lamps. Also in this case the choice is twofold: in transparent glass or in painted ceramic. The important thing is to give continuity to the environment and not overdo it because the watchword is always lightness.
