There Triennale of Milan lands in the Big Apple! That’s right, the famous Milanese museum dedicated toarchitecture and al design international opens a new office in the heart of Manhattan in New York, precisely at 40 West 53rd Street, opposite the prestigious MoMA museum of contemporary art. The opening is scheduled for September 2010 and the first important appointment will be a major Italian exhibition on Giò Ponti. But now let’s take a closer look at this amazing project!
The Triennale di Milano opens a new office in New York and does it in style starting from the location: in front of one of the most famous and important museums in the world: the MoMA!
The space is spread over 2 thousand square meters divided over four levels that will include an exhibition space of one thousand meters, the bookshop, the cafeteria, the bistro, the restaurant with strictly Italian cuisine and an Italian style of life T-store that will host products and companies of the made in Italy.
With the aim of bringing the essence of Italian identity to New York, this new and important museum venue was designed by Italian architects Michele De Lucchi, Pierluigi Cerri and Alessandro Colombo in collaboration with the New York studio Studio CUH2.
One of the main architectural elements is the open structure cantilevered staircase which represents the backbone of the building and connects the various floors also giving access to the gallery of about 1000 square meters located on the lower floor. The result is a flexible and dynamic space that will soon become an important reference point for design and art lovers!
