The new headquarters of the Prada Foundation designed by OMA study under the guidance of Rem Koolhaas will open in Milan on Saturday 9 May. Date that will be preceded by a week of events and which will be celebrated with several important events: Robert Gober and Thomas Demand they will create site-specific installations integrating them with industrial architectures and new spaces, while Roman Polanski he will explore the cinematographic suggestions that inspired his films through an unpublished documentary and a film review.
The OMA Architecture Studio, assisted by Rem Koolhaas, designed the new Milan headquarters of Prada Foundation which will be inaugurated in May, strongly supported by Miuccia Prada, and characterized by an architectural combination of pre-existing buildings and new constructions in the area of a former distillery located in the south of Milan.
19 thousand square meters, of which 11 thousand are intended for exhibition activities, are the spaces that will host a selection of works from Prada collection presented in thematic exhibitions.
Born in 1993, the Prada Foundation it has been the seat of contemporary art exhibitions and projects of architecture, cinema and philosophy, and with the opening of a permanent site, the Foundation intends to give even more voice to art, considering it an effective tool of knowledge.
The opening of the new headquarters will be celebrated with various activities: from the installations of Robert Gober and Thomas Demand, in the shots of Roman Polanski on the cinematographic suggestions that inspired his films, at the exhibitions Serial Classic in Milan (from 9 May to 24 August 2015), e Portable Classic in Venice (from 9 May to 13 September 2015), curated by Salvatore Settis in collaboration with Anna Anguissola and Davide Gasparotto, who analyze respectively the themes of seriality and copying in classical art and small-scale reproduction of Greek-Roman statuary from the Renaissance to Neoclassicism. The Venice office in the eighteenth-century palace of Ca ‘Corner della Regina, and until summer 2015 the two venues will ideally be united by these two exhibitions of ancient art, the setting up of which is designed by OMA.
The new Largo Isarco headquarters will also see two environments born of special collaborations: an educational area dedicated to children and developed with the students of the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Versailles, and a bar that recreates the atmosphere of the typical cafes of Milan, conceived by director Wes Anderson.
