Lampedusa Palace returns to shine after an important restoration which affected the whole historic Palermo residence. The recovery work was impressive and the project was led by architects Alice Franzitta and Fabrizio Ravuzza, who managed to reconstruct this building thanks to the detailed account that the great writer de The Leopard: Giuseppe Tomasi da Lampedusa. It is precisely within his great work that the author has meticulously described each room, and through it it has been possible to restore the ancient splendor to the Palazzo.
“His phrases were the gospel for the reconstruction. We have transcribed the entire page of her book Tales with the description at the entrance, but there are many phrases in the other rooms as well “revealed Alice Franzitta, architect who followed the restoration work of Palazzo Lampedusa, referring to the author of Il Gattopardo. The recovery project cost 10 million euros, money that was allocated by private citizens, who became the new owners of the house; previously the real estate company owner of the property turned to the banks to obtain the useful amount for the work, obtaining negative responses.
35 citizens bought Lampedusa Palace: “They bought a ruin five years ago, trusting those who managed the operation and today we have saved the building from a fate written by the master plan, which involved the construction of a multi-storey building in reinforced concrete” reveals the architect Franzitta again. . After the bombings of the Second World War the building was almost completely demolished. Until 2008 there were subsidence and lengthy negotiations with the owners residing elsewhere.
From the restoration work of this imposing and historic building, 30 private apartments have been obtained, which today are inhabited by those who invested money only five years ago in a project full of question marks and a lot of hope. The same citizens who own the property have decided to open to the public: Palazzo Lampedusa can be visited at fixed times, so that each person can breathe the atmosphere and relive the great masterpiece of Giuseppe Tomasi. “The spirit of recovery is precisely to give the city a piece of history, a piece of memory; it is our intention to plan the times and methods of visits so that it can be used ”reassures the architect.
