Kartell goes Sottsass is the title of the tribute that the company did, on the occasion of the Fuorisalone 2015, to one of the largest masters of design contemporary. To celebrate the undisputed talent of this artist, Kartell has created a collection consisting of six vases, two stools and a lamp. The shapes and colors chosen are those that have always accompanied the designer Ettore Sottsass. Each element has particular volumes and post-modernist geometries. The colors chosen are bright, linked to twentieth-century pop culture, and among these, red, acid green, glossy white and black and intense pink stand out.
On the occasion of the Salone and Fuorisalone 2015, Ettore Sottsass lives again thanks to Kartell, which has created an exhibition with the unpublished projects signed by the great master in 2004 and never produced. Inside the flagship store in Via Turati, with an installation curated by Ferruccio Laviani, the works of the designer and his adventure with the ‘Memphis’ group were shown.
The collaboration with Memphis was born to celebrate one of the greatest stories that the designer has had in the past. The seats and upholstery of the brand have been upholstered with fabrics original and colorful of the brand: the Foliage and Clap Armchair lines by Patricia Urquiola, the Trix system and the Audrey seat by Piero Lissoni, the Mademoiselle armchairs by Philippe Starck have been dressed with fabrics specially developed by Kartell. The fabric collections bear the signature of Michele de Lucchi, George Sowden and Nathalie du Pasquier as well as Ettore Sottsass and feature the typical Memphis patterns in an original and creative way.
There collection by Ettore Sottsass for Kartell it does not only include vases and stools. This was complemented by a designer chandelier called Daisy, which boasts the original application of rectangular cards in plastic material declined in the typical colors of the designer, which are attached to a central disc in black thermoplastic technopolymer.
