For the year 2011 he is the architect David Adjaye to win the prestigious title of Designer of the Year delivered by the international jury of Miami design. This is an important award, now in its seventh edition, which has been awarded over the years to some of the most important names on the international scene: Zaha Hadid, Marc Newson, Tokujin Yoshioka, the Campana brothers, Maarten Baas and Konstantin Grcic .
David Adjaye is one of the architects most established and quoted of the moment. Born in 1966 in Tanzania but with headquarters in London and offices in Berlin and New York, he has signed important projects of international importance such as the Skolkovo School of Management in Moscow, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo and the post-hurricane homes in New Orleans built with support from the Brad Pitt Make It Right Foundation.
On the occasion of Design Miami / 2011, scheduled from 29 November to 4 December, Adjaye will present an installation specially commissioned by the jury of the Design of the Year award.
It is called Genesis and it is the pavilion that will welcome visitors to the Miami Fair: a triangular prism of 10 meters per side composed of hundreds of shaped wooden boards with an ovoid space in the center that will host the seats.
The setting will be made spectacular by the opening towards the sky and the surrounding environment which will offer a strategic view of the galleries surrounding the area. The lamellar wooden structure, on the other hand, will allow light to filter inside, creating a unique and dynamic play of light and shadow.
