Is called Berry and it is the surprise with a high design rate that welcomes visitors to the estate Monsordo Bernardina near Alba. Brothers Ceretto, owners of the estate, wanted a structure similar to an air bubble resting on an oak wooden platform suspended over the vineyards. A daring project studied by Luca and Marina Deabate who have made coverage with EFTE, a new generation soft and transparent material also used for the Munich stadium.
This gigantic grape has been set up as a space dedicated to tastings and cultural initiatives related to the world of wine. Staying inside, one has the sensation of hovering over the splendid landscape of the Piedmontese Langhe.
For the Ceretto family this is not the only example of architecture in the landscape, since their reality has become famous not only for the great quality of the wines but also for other projects such as the Cube glass dedicated to Barolo and the Chapel, a ruined church among the vineyards that was recovered and entirely decorated by the artists David Tremlett and Sol Lewitt.
The combination of cellars and design is a decidedly current topic with other excellent examples in our country especially in Tuscany where the Petra di Terre Moretti winery is located, designed by Mario Botta or that of Rocca di Frassinello by Renzo Piano. Even abroad archistars like Zaha Hadid, Santiago Calatrava and Frank O’Gehry have signed excellent wineries that today are the destination of a wine-cultural tourism very attracted by high-level architecture.
