Crisis or not crisis? This is the problem and it also appears to be the tremendous dilemma that exhibitors face Salone del Mobile in Milan. From8 to 13 April 2014, despite the difficult period, designers from all over the world exhibit their novelties at the Rho Fair. Sofas, furnishing accessories, but also Eurocucina and Salone del Bagno. How did the pavilions of the furnishing? Let’s find out all the novelties proposed to the Rho Fair.
Let’s start with what could be considered the opposites of this 2014 exhibition: Kartell is Tom Dixon. The stand of the first brand is a triumph of gold, in the reflections of light, in the crystals proposed by the Collection signed by Patricia Urquiola, until the lights of Eugeni Quitllet. Suspended between a cage and palm trees, all rigorously gilded, the O / K cot, signed by Rodolfo Dordoni. Here the crisis is not at home and the reference market does not seem to be our own but international, probably Russian or Chinese. On the opposite side of the design ring we have instead Tom Dixon, which seems to refer to a certain taste in Italian design and which offers various interesting solutions. It starts from yours Y-Chair, with the backrest that reproduces the letter of the alphabet, to arrive at the most massive solutions: Mass Book Stand, Mass Coat Stand and Mass Dining Table. Particular attention also to small design objects that create atmosphere: a particular collection, Scents, is dedicated to candle holders and aroma diffusers.
Turning around the stands, the many collaborations of the brand cannot leave indifferent Magis. From the most particular solutions designed by Rogier Martens to the more traditional ones of Marcel Wanders, with its Troy collection. We also point out the clean lines of the Traffic collection by Konstantin Grcic and the rounded and grid ones from the Pina collection by Jaime Hayon. Do you want to get lost in a white garden with hanging armchairs that recall the solutions of American colonial houses? The stand Dedon will respond to your needs with the sessions that take up the motifs of the baskets of the Ahnda Collection and the “rocking” ones of the Swing Me Swing Us Collection.
The gigantic stand of the Poltrona Frau Group includes two brands that cannot be ignored if you cross the threshold of the Salone del Mobile: Cassina and Cappellini. The Cassina installation takes the visitor into an environment that seeks to create balance and well-being with the projects of Jaime Hayon, Piero Lissoni, Luca Nichetto, Patrick Norguet and Jean Nouvel, and re-editions by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand and Marcel Breuer. Cappellini does not disappoint with its chromatic rooms that contain new versions of famous design objects. You can see the new versions of the Meltdown floor and table lamp or the new Brass, Copper and Blue colors for the Gong Lux round coffee table, made of laser-cut metal sheet with a glossy galvanic bath finish.
We continue our tour of the novelties of this Salone del Mobile 2014 with Edra and the novelties signed Fernando and Humberto Campana, with their “Bastardo”, a “modular and dynamic” sofa whose particular backrest can be fitted and modeled in different shapes, and the sofa by Francesco Binfaré who declares: “These sofas, which are basically all born from Le Corbusier, I thought them big, to make the small person feel small ”. The upholstery can be chosen in vintage or natural matte leather, with even dark shades. One of the most striking and particular stands is certainly that of Gufram. At first glance, you may think that you have stone objects in front of you, such as the armchair of Alessandro Mendini, but you are actually faced with a purely optical effect: the seat is soft. Same goes for Ross Lovegrove’s Softcrete: it looks like a concrete block but the material isn’t hard. New for the brand are also the Boing outdoor chairs by Karim Rashid.
First debut at the Salone del Mobile for the Renzo Rosso brand, Diesel. A 380 square meter stand hosts the Casa collection that the brand has created in collaboration with Foscarini, for the lamps (the Pylon and Hexx ones to be mentioned), Moroso for sofas (present at the fair with a large exhibition space) and more, Scavolini for the kitchen, Seletti for design objects and Zucchi for fabrics. Another tour, another stand with Vitra. Those who love the designs of Alexander Girard, historical mind of the brand, will not be indifferent to the great classics but also to the novelties of 2014. Among these, the very interesting Planophore by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, who also signed the Mariposa Sofa. The pavilions still offer many new features: from the Nuno chairs by Zanotta to the Lou Read of Dryad, with the touch of Philippe Starck and Eugeni Quitllet, who also collaborates with the simple lines of Alias, in the Tabù collection, and, to conclude the new living proposals by Alivar with Diesys, the new bookcase designed by the architect Bavuso.
