It’s called Universe Rietveld, architecture art design and it’s the new one exhibition hosted in the prestigious spaces of the MAXXI in Rome from 14 April to 10 July 2011. Curated by Maristella Casciato, Domitilla Dardi and Ida van Zijl, the exhibition is the first monographic retrospective exhibited in Italy, a real tribute to the great architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld (Utrecht 1888 – 1964). From 14 April to 10 July 2011, the brand new MAXXI Architecture museum of Rome dedicates the first monographic retrospective in Italy on the life and works of one of the greatest masters of all time, Gerrit Rietveld.
The exhibition, co-produced by MAXXI in collaboration with the Central Museum Utrecht and NAi Rotterdam, is entitled Rietveld universe and it is a real tribute to a person who was an architect, interior and furniture designer, but also a teacher and skilled exhibition planner and exhibition space designer.
The exhibition itinerary illustrates the activity of Gerrit Rietveld through the exhibition of over 100 works of architecture and design for a total of about 400 pieces including drawings, photos, models.
The exhibition itinerary is also enriched by theinstallation of the Rietveld Laboratory, by the Education Department of MAXXI. It is an outdoor space designed by Scandinavians Rintala Eggerstsson Architects where visitors can experience the construction of some of Rietveld’s furniture.
