We know. The national alert decreed because of the coronavirus is leading us to have the cleanest and tidiest houses ever. We are cleaning little by little, throwing things, cleaning corners that we no longer remembered were there.
After all, you have to kill time, and since we are going to be at home for a long time we are going to prepare it and make it as pleasant as possible. If you have already ordered the dressing room, the wardrobes, and you have reached into the bedroom, today we are going to give you a few keys to make the living room super clean.
- Put order. The first step is going to be to collect all those things that you have lying around. Keys, magazines, pens, chargers, the tablet … Make everything disappear from the middle.
- Take the opportunity to get rid of those decorative objects that you don’t like at all. Surely you have things in the living room that you don’t like. Gifts, objects that you loved but that you have already tired of, things that don’t suit you … Put them in a box and give them away or sell them (yes, when the period of confinement passes).
- Dusts off. Use a damp microfiber cloth to remove the dust layer, and not just from the surface of the furniture. Clean with it the frames of the paintings and the photos …
ZOLLNER Set of 24 Microfiber Wipes, 32×32 cm, Assorted Colors
- Brighten. In addition to dusting, we are going to take advantage to shine the furniture and make it look like new using waxes or specific furniture products. Before using them, you must test the product on a corner to see the result.
KEQIUSHA – Traditional Beeswax Polisher for Wood and Furniture, Multipurpose for Cleaning Wood and Polishing wipes – Non-toxic for Furniture to beautify and Protect
- The books, one by one. Put in the bookstore, it seems that your books are super shiny. But take them out one by one, and you will see the layer of dust that has been deposited on them. So spend a little time cleaning your bookstore and getting your books ready for magazine.
- Tune up the sofas. Many times, sofas are the great forgotten ones in the cleanings of the living room, despite the fact that they accumulate dust, dirt, mites … Vacuum the backrests, the armrests, the seats … If your sofa has a removable part, wash it, or even take the opportunity to change it and thus renew your sofa. Take advantage also to wash the cushion covers. And if they are very old, don’t be shy about getting both the filling and some new cushion covers.
- Lamps also exist. Although we remember them only when a light bulb burns out, the lamps are always there. Pass a feather duster to remove the dust, and take the opportunity to clean thoroughly with a microfiber cloth, or with glass cleaner in the case of chandeliers. Some types of lamps will force you to remove the crystals to clean one by one.
- Clean the switches. Next to the doors, the switches are another element of the house that we touch continuously. And with everything that is falling, we have to be more cautious than ever and clean and disinfect them.
- Clean the TV. Dust, fingers on the screen … Check your TV manufacturer’s manual to see if they recommend something to clean it. And above all, make sure that before cleaning it takes a while off. When you are about to clean the flat screen of the televisions in your house, make sure that they are turned off a little earlier, since, during use, they accumulate a lot of heat. To remove dust use a microfiber dry cloth To avoid scratches, and for fingerprints, use a microfiber cloth with a specific product to clean the screen
- Vacuum the carpet. Detect stains, and clean them. And by the way, move the sofas, and take the opportunity to clean skirting boards and those corners that you usually forget in the usual cleanings.
- Wash the curtains How long has your living room curtains been collecting dust? Yesterday, a friend told me that the curtains at her house had not known a washing machine. So get to work, look at the label, and the washing machine. To dry them, it is best to hang them in place again. If you want more details, don’t miss this post from my partner Patricia on how to wash curtains.
- Clean the window panes. If you never draw the curtains when you have a home visitor because the windows are so dirty that they prevent you from seeing the building in front, this is the perfect time to clean them thoroughly.
- Check the condition of the plants. It may be time to take a little more care of your plants. In addition to giving them away, remove the dead leaves, place them in places with more light … and if you do not have plants, it may be time to fill your room with vegetation. Green makes us feel better and will help us connect with nature, at a time when we must leave home.
- The door: In addition to dusting, you can apply a wood repair.
- Clean the baseboards. The skirting board is another element that we always forget. Run a microfiber cloth over it to remove the layer of dust that it (almost) surely has.
- Check the ceilings. It is likely that in some corner there is even a cobweb that you have not seen.
