The public design urban has a new involving citizens of New York in fascinating questions and complexes of the public sphere, from today until September 20, 2011. Urban design week was created to celebrate the pavements and public spaces that are at the center of city life. With an open procedure, a competition of ideas and a program full of debates, visits guided, projections, workshops, and events across the five boroughs, UDW will highlight the fact that cities are generated by collective effort, and that each of us is called upon to play a role in making everything work in the best possible way.
602 Twitter inputs were launched as part of the By the city / For the City initiative, promoted by the Institute for Urban Design which wanted to involve New Yorkers at the forefront in the design of the “common thing” with the the idea that cities only function thanks to the intelligence and coordination of collective action.
The New Yorkers, stimulated by a suggestive “Wouldn’t it be fantastic that…”, pointed out forgotten places or places that could be improved, underlining their criticalities, highlighting their needs and proposing new ideas and possibilities of use. THE data collected, available by category on urbandesignweek.org, were then the starting point for a competition aimed at architects, urban planners, artists and designers, called to realize one of the “dreams” of New Yorkers.
All the solutions developed will be presented during the Urban Design Week which from 15 to 20 September will celebrate streets, sidewalks, parks, squares .. The agenda of meetings regarding key areas of the city such as the Open House New York or the Queens is very dense. Museum of Art.
