For the second consecutive year, to win the prestigious Stirling Prize award is the architect designer Zaha Hadid. We are talking about the recognition that every year is given by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) to the designer of the building who, in the last year, has contributed most to the prestige of British architecture in the world. If last year the extraordinary project of the MAXXI in Rome was awarded, this year the designer triumphed for theEvelyn Grace Academy, a complex of four school buildings built in the London district of Brixton.
Evelyn Grace Academy is the name of the new architectural project designed and built by Zaha Hadid Architects which this year won the prestigious Stirling Prize awarded annually by the Royal Institute of British Architects to the best British designer.
It is a school complex able to accommodate 2 middle schools with 270 pupils each and 2 high schools with 330 pupils each. All four institutes occupy highly functional spaces with a strong architectural identity both in terms of interiors and exteriors.
Great attention was also paid to theenvironment with numerous and large green areas as well as systems at the highest levels of natural lighting and ventilation. The collective spaces are also designed to facilitate communication between the various institutions, thus avoiding the creation of problem areas.
The other projects competing for the award were: Folkwang Museum in Essen (Germany) by David Chipperfield Architects, An Gaelaras aDerry (Ireland) by O’Donnell and Tuomey Architects, Angel Building in London by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Olympic Velodrome 2012 a London by Hopkins and Royal Shakespeare Theater in Stratford (UK) by Bennetts Associates.
