It is born The Tower of the Cedars, the Vertical Forest twinned with Lausanne which doubles the design of the building built in Milan in the Porta Nuova district. The jury of the Swiss municipality Chavannes-Près-Renens, on the shores of Lake Geneva, has once again rewarded the architect Stefano Boeri, who designed a building of 117 meters. Will host 24 thousand plants (including many cedar trees), which will enrich the plant and wildlife heritage of the city. This huge structure, a green lung that will help produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, is a candidate to become the world’s first evergreen trees.
After the Italian experience of Bosco Verticale Milanese, winner of the International Highrise Award 2014 as the most innovative and beautiful building in the world, also in Switzerland a structure capable of integrating architecture and nature will soon arise. The project of the Vertical Forest of Lausanne obtained the consent of the jury, defeating the proposals of the Botta Architetto, Richter Dahl Rocha & Associès Architectes, Goettsch Partners studios. It will be made in Lausanne by Stefano Boeri Architects Studio, with the collaboration of Buro Happold Engineering for the structures and Laura Gatti for the plant component. The builder will be Bernard Nicod.
The extraordinary Torre dei Cedri, which will stand out over the urban area of Lausanne, was defined in this way because it was designed with a significant presence of cedar trees. These plant types, capable of living for millennia and easily adapting to extreme climatic conditions, will be planted in four different species. To the trees, a hundred, will be added 6 thousand shrubs is 18 thousand plants, perennial, hanging and ground cover.
From the structural point of view, however, the 117 meters will be divided into 36 floors which will house private apartments, offices, services, a gym and a panoramic restaurant. The avant-garde project is presented by Boeri with enthusiasm: “With La Torre di Cedri we will have the opportunity to create a sober and at the same time building of great importance in the Lausanne landscape, an architecture capable, among other things, of engaging a significant biodiversity of species vegetables in the heart of an important European city ». It can be counted among the buildings destined to mark the evolution of architecture, thanks to the futuristic design and refined aesthetics, due to the colors of the plants that change according to the seasons, aspects that make it a landmark building in the lake landscape.
