The Milanese studio Vittorio Grassi Architect & Partners he designed the Sports Hall of Lamezia Terme, a new multifunctional center of excellence and attractiveness for the whole region of Calabria and the South. In October 2014, preliminary excavations were carried out in the area and the first works on the ground; today the construction finally starts, which the architect Vittorio Grassi, as artistic director of the work, will follow in every phase. The idea is to create a building that has the typical shape of a stone of the Lametine coast but characterized by unique features.
Lightness and transparency, also this time, they are the keystones of this construction signed byarchitect Vittorio Grassi, which with this work celebrates the 10 years of activity of his studio with a futuristic project for the design and the materials used.
‘In an Italy where there is less and less space for the construction of large structures and where there is an increasing tendency to work on the pre-existing, this work was born thanks to the foresight of the municipality of Lamezia Terme and the Calabria Region, to respond to the an increasingly urgent need to find new spaces for sporting and cultural activities. The Palazzetto dello Sport was in fact designed specifically to host differentiated activities that guarantee its continuous use throughout the year and that can make it a center of attraction and an opportunity for the whole Calabrian territory and for the entire South. ‘ said the architect about his project.
In detail, the Sports Hall of Lamezia Terme look outside and reveal everything inside. The surrounding embankment is raised by 5 meters, the entrance foyer and the upper ring are glazed and transparent, so as to offer the public sitting on the upper steps the surrounding landscape. The same structure of the steps, conceived as a closed ring but with rampant stairways, add dynamism to the composition, and the continuous ring path optimizes the emergency exits and the rapid outflow of spectators.
In this regard, the Palazzetto dello Sport has a capacity of 4,300 seats, has an area of 8,000 square meters developed on an area of 50,000 square meters. It is located in Stretto locality, in via Progresso, along the two seas state road, about 4 kilometers from the airport, from the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway junction and from the railway station.
With this new work plan, the architect Vittorio Grassi confirms not only that he has excellent design skills but also that he plays an important role in the service of the community.
