Discovering the famous furniture and furnishings by Gio Ponti, the master of Italian architecture and design. The armchairs signed by Gio Ponti
Since 2012 Molteni & C has chosen to give life to the Gio Ponti Collection with a re-edition of furniture and furnishings designed by the artist that once made a fine show of themselves in the most chic private homes. The Ponti heirs and the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati has chosen some of the best pieces and year after year inserts them in the Molteni catalog.
D.153.1 – Molteni & C
In Gio Ponti Collection by Molteni & C, the armchair D.153.1 designed in 1953 seen in Gio Ponti’s private house in via Dezza in Milan. Presented at the Salone del Mobile 2012, it has a satin brass structure and a choice of leather or Rubelli fabric upholstery.
Dezza – Poltrona Frau
Armchairs, but also sofas designed for Poltrona Frau, including the line Dezza designed in 1965 and characterized by a particular research in the direction of comfort and lightness. With ash wood feet and a choice of leather or fabric upholstery, it is an evergreen piece of furniture among the best known in Italian design.
The chairs designed by Gio Ponti
Gio Ponti was also a prominent figure for Cassina, which today has in its catalog two of the chairs signed by the architect: the 646 and the 699, known as Leggera and Superleggera.
646 Light – Cassina
Since 1952, Lightweight finds space in many homes. A chair with a simple shape, it has however become a design icon thanks to its elegant simplicity. Made of solid ash wood, it offers a series of colors and materials to be inserted in any context, both residential and contract.
Gio Ponti’s lamps
Gio Ponti also collaborates with FontanaArte in the creation of furniture and lamps with a pure and luxurious design, and with Pietro Chiesa he also came to follow the artistic direction of the company.
0024 – Fontana Arte
There suspension lamp 0024 Fontana Arte it is designed by fixing on a chromed brass structure a succession of transparent glass discs and a central cylindrical diffuser in sandblasted glass.
The same concept is taken up by the architect also for the 0024 Fontana Arte coffee table, also to be considered one of Gio Ponti’s cult furnishings.
Gio Ponti’s ceramics
Ceramic is a material dear to Gio Ponti, who in the course of his life had also taken over the direction of the historian Richard Ginori manufacture, leaving us beautiful examples of vases, plates and other items for the home.
But the architect did not only dedicate himself to the art of the table and the house and continued to put his signature on ceramic objects to dress the rooms, collaborating with the former Ceramica D’Agostino. An example of Ponti’s work in this field are the ceramics designed in 1962 for theHotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento decorated with geometric combinations and used to cover the rooms, the hall, the reception, the bar and the restaurant.
