Everyday objects reinvented through the eyes of five contemporary artists. It’s the new one Ikea Art Event 2021, collection in limited edition composed by 10 items with a truly unique design.
To participate in this project, as mentioned, I am five contemporary artists: Daniel Arsham, Gelchop, Humans since 1982, Sabine Marcelis and Stefan Marx. For its sixth edition, Ikea Art Event creates a limited edition collection that tells the magic that happens when the boundary between art and functional design is crossed.
“This range of home furnishings presents an ingenious perspective on everyday objects, inviting the wonder and curiosity aroused by art directly to your home ”, reads the Ikea website.
For this collection, Ikea has decided to select five artists, different from each other, to create objects for the home that are real works of art, but at the same time are useful objects in our daily life. “This is a wonderful new vision of art and the house that does not play by the rules “.
Ikea Art Event 2021: our favorite items
From the clock made by Daniel Arsham al jar by Stefan Marx, here are the articles from Ikea Art Event 2021 that impressed us the most.
Daniel Arsham’s watch
Daniel Arsham is an American artist who works on art, architecture and performance. His most recent works, in fact, combine ideas related to future civilizations and archaeological decay. For Ikea Art Event 2021 he focused on the theme of time and made a table clock which reflects his interest in “architecture in motion”. A very special object with a rather low price. The watch, in fact, is priced at $ 44.99.

Wall decoration by Humans since 1982
Humans since 1982 was born in 2007 by Bastian Bischoff and Per Emanuelsonn. The two, who at the time were students at HDK in Goteborg, started a project that blends art and design to create subversive everyday objects. Their work, we read on the Ikea website, “is driven by curiosity and the desire to offer a new way of thinking about the world”.
For Ikea Art Event 2021 they created a wall decoration which tells “the dynamism of human nature”. The duo usually takes iconic objects to relocate them outside their natural habitat to give them new life and new functions. Their contribution to Ikea’s limited collection follows this line of thinking.
The two, in fact, took gods drones, modern objects associated with surveillance, and have placed them in an aluminum case perfect for decorating your living room with an original design element. Finally, the two hope that their creation will be appreciated by Ikea consumers, being an element that can be inserted, according to them, in any home.

The vase made by Stefan Marx
The jar of the artist and designer Stefan Marx it has certainly impressed us with its beauty and elegance. The German artist and illustrator, as we read on the Ikea website, finds inspiration from his surroundings, from friends to books, from music to the natural world. Furthermore, drawing is at the center of all his work and is essential for Marx to be able to express his ideas.
For the limited collection of Ikea Art Event 2021, he created a carpet and a vase that reflect the texture of a graffiti that the artist saw on a wall in London. Marx’s goal is to bring “joy into the home through art”. The two objects, and the vase in particular, are from daily use and, according to the artist, they will be appreciated because they combine “the emotional aspect with the functionality of the object”. In fact, on closer inspection, the vase reads the following sentence “I’m so so so sorrryyyyy”. It therefore becomes, among other things, an excellent one gift idea for someone who wants to be forgiven in a different way, giving a wonderful design article.
