How to create a perfect DIY garden for every budget and need? Guide, advice, ideas from design to creation and customization of the garden, costs and procedure.
Every garden that is going to be created is a world unto itself, to be included in a specific environmental framework.
Reason why for create a perfect garden, it must be structured to reflect not only the surrounding environment, but also the architectural structure of the house and finally the personality and the possibilities of spending and taking care of the green of the person who lives there.
Garden: design, construction and customization
We often ask ourselves i costs and procedures to create a garden,
Let’s see all the steps in this guide from A to Z to design and create the perfect garden for every need.
DIY garden design
There design it is the most important phase, the one in which the garden takes shape on paper and the different problems to which a solution or a compromise are put to light. The area dedicated to the garden is analyzed, its shape and size, the arrangement of the various components of a garden is decided, from plants, to gazebos, swimming pools, and provides for the analysis and study of the area, the type of soil, sun exposure, climate.

This phase, based on the complexity and the need for certain calculations and permits, may require the intervention of experts in the sector to rely on to be carried out such as geologists, engineers, masters.
The design phase is useful in determining where to place the irrigation systems and of lighting and any puddles of water or / and artificial lakes or one pool, understand the soil type, sun exposure to compare the compatibility of these factors with the characteristics of plants that we want to plant and select those that are able to better adapt to the temperatures and rainfall of the area.
This phase is part of the photocomposition, a new technology used by the most advanced companies in the garden construction, which consists of the 3D realization of the garden made on the PC on an original image of the land in question.
This technique allows you to have a clear picture of where to place lights, pebbles, plants, ponds, swimming pool and so on.
If the budget does not allow us to contact a professional, we can try our hand at the use of 3d programs to design a garden or we can proceed with proofs on paper both in 2d and 3d.
In this case we proceed as follows:
- We use a sheet of graph paper and decide on a scale, for example 1 cm = 1 meter.
- We draw the perimeter of the garden so as to have shape and size in mind.
- In scale, we draw on a sheet of paper the elements that will populate our garden: swimming pool, gazebo, trees, etc. and we cut them out.
- We arrange the elements on the graph paper sheet to evaluate functionality and dimensions, as well as aesthetic satisfaction.
- Once all the positions have been decided, we proceed with the design of the lighting and irrigation systems based on the arrangement of the elements.

Garden construction
There construction is the stage where everything previously pinned in the project begins to take shape.
Typically it starts from ground:
- we proceed to create holes or planned settlements,
- the irrigation system is created according to the arrangement and type of plants estimated in the design phase,
- continue with the insemination of the lawn or the spreading of the same with rolls of lawn,
- we proceed with the development of the cobblestones and avenues,
- you create the lighting system (read the article: how to light up the garden),
- last the garden with flowers and plants.
In practice, we start from the most cumbersome and difficult things to reach only the final embellishment of the environment.

The costs of construction
THE costs they depend on the personnel employed, the realization of the project, the material, etc.
Obviously having a luxurious garden like the one above in the picture is equivalent to spending a fortune!
To evaluate the costs of building the garden we proceed as follows:
- We take the draft of the project and create a list of all the elements inserted (trees, plants, flowers, gazebos, swimming pools, etc.)
- We create lists aggregated by type of element in order to distinguish costs and feasibility on the elements. For example, in a column we insert Plants, in another Swimming Pool, in another Gazebo, so as to also enter the prices of the accessory elements in the right cost center and therefore evaluate the feasibility based on the available budget.
- We define prices to assign to the elements either by searching on the net or by contacting a nursery for plants, catalogs and quotes for the more complex elements.
- In any case, our advice is to always have more than one quote and, after making a comparison, contact those who offer you a better quality / price ratio.
